Hi, I’m Jessica Brown, Counsellor at JLB Counselling
I know that life can feel overwhelming at times, and many people carry more than others realise. Counselling is a space where you don’t have to hold everything on your own — a place to pause, talk things through, and feel genuinely heard without judgement.
I was drawn to counselling through a genuine interest in people — not just what they are experiencing, but how thoughts, emotions, and patterns develop over time. I aim to provide a calm, grounded space where you can show up as you are.
My approach is warm, collaborative, trauma-informed and person-centred, with a strong focus on building a trusting therapeutic relationship.
At its core, I see counselling as a process of developing self-understanding, easing emotional burden, and finding a way forward that feels more steady and aligned with who you are.
My Approach to Counselling
I believe counselling should never be one-size-fits-all. Every person has their own experiences, strengths, and goals, which is why I tailor my approach to meet your individual needs.
Together, we'll work to better understand your experiences, develop practical strategies, and build meaningful, lasting change at a pace that feels right for you.
I draw from a range of evidence-based approaches depending on what best supports your needs, including:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT helps identify the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. Together, we can recognise unhelpful patterns, develop healthier coping strategies, and build practical skills to manage challenges such as anxiety, stress, and low mood.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT focuses on building psychological flexibility through mindfulness, self-compassion, and values-based action. Rather than struggling against difficult thoughts or emotions, you'll learn new ways of responding to them while moving towards what matters most to you.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)-Informed Strategies
DBT-informed skills can help you manage overwhelming emotions, tolerate distress, improve relationships, and strengthen mindfulness and emotional regulation in everyday life.
Person-Centred Counselling
Creating a safe, respectful, and non-judgemental therapeutic relationship is central to my practice. I believe feeling heard and understood provides the foundation for meaningful change.
Trauma-Informed Practice
I recognise that past experiences can shape how we think, feel, and relate to others. I work in a way that prioritises emotional safety, collaboration, trust, and empowerment throughout the counselling process.
Strengths-Based Practice
Alongside working through challenges, I believe it's equally important to recognise your strengths, resilience, and existing resources. Together, we'll build on these to support confidence, wellbeing, and sustainable growth.
